Homemade Bagels Recipe
Ingredients
- 500 Gm All-Purpose Flour
- 7 Gm Active Dry Yeast
- 10 Gm Sugar
- 5 Gm Salt
- 300 Ml Warm Water
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil For Greasing
Optional Toppings
- Sesame Seeds
- Poppy Seeds
- Everything Bagel Seasoning
- Grated Cheese
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Combine the yeast mixture with the dry ingredients to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 60 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
- Poke a hole in the center of each ball and stretch it to form a bagel shape.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and bring a pot of water to a boil.
- Boil the bagels for 1 minute on each side, then transfer to a baking sheet.
- Add your favorite toppings and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden.

- Use warm water, not hot, to activate the yeast.
- Boiling the bagels before baking is what gives them their signature chewy texture.
- If you don’t have everything bagel seasoning, make your own using a mix of sesame seeds, dried onion, garlic, and salt.
- For a shinier finish, brush the bagels with an egg wash before baking.
