Ingredients

  • 6 Medium Apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • ½ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ Tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Unsalted Butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 Pack Refrigerated Pie Crust 2 sheets
  • 1 Egg beaten, for brushing
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar for sprinkling, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  • In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice.
  • Mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Sprinkle this over the apples and toss to coat evenly.
  • Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture and dot the top with butter pieces.
  • Cover with the second pie crust. Trim, seal, and flute the edges. Cut small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  • Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar if desired.
  • Bake for 50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for a balanced flavor. Granny Smith and Honeycrisp are great choices.
  • If you don’t have nutmeg, you can substitute it with allspice or skip it entirely.
  • To avoid a soggy bottom crust, brush it with a thin layer of beaten egg before adding the apple filling.
  • Store leftover pie covered at room temperature for up to two days or in the refrigerator for five days. Reheat before serving for the best taste.
  • Optional Topping: Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence!
